The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is the place from where you explore a vast massif of several peaks above 7,000m including Annapurna I(8091) forming part of the range that forms a natural amphitheater. The Annapurna Base Camp is a high glacial basin lying north of Pokhara. Passing directly below Machhapuchhare, we will visit both the base camps of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna and explore the Annapurna Sanctuary amphitheater before returning to Pokhara via a different route. This is a fairly strenuous alpine trek that gives the fitter walker close-up and unbeatable mountain views.
Why Annapurna Base Camp is one of the most popular Trek in Nepal?
Most of the treks in Nepal are long days trek. Everest Base Camp Trek, Annapurna Circuit Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek, etc are some examples of trekking in Nepal which takes easily more than two weeks where this Trek can be done within 6-8 days depending on the trekking routes you take.
Annapurna Base Camp Trek has the same glamour that people looking for while trekking in the Himalayas and the stories and Legacy of Annapurna are as high as of Mount Everest. It carries so much of history in mountaineering and when you observe the history while looking at the mountain is an amazing feeling.
What are the Attractions of Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Annapurna is not a single mountain, it’s a series of mountains where you explore, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Annapurna III, Fishtail, Hiunchuli, and many other trekking peaks from one single place called Annapurna Base Camp. You will feel like you are sitting on a bucket of snow where you are surrounded by 360-degree mountains.
What are the biggest highlights of the Trek?
This is the only trek where you reach very closed to the mountain walking on the forested trail exploring different flora and fauna. Most of the treks in Nepal, like Everest Base Camp, Mustang, Manaslu, etc you walk above the treeline on desert landscapes. Walking along the Modi River and its gorge, hot spring in Jhinu Danda, and many waterfalls during trekking to Annapurna Base Camp make this trip memorable for any kind of trekker.
What is the best time to do this Trek?
Spring and Autumn seasons are the best seasons for trekking in Nepal except for some trekking routes like Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo, Simikot Limi Valley, etc. Personally, I prefer to do this trek even in winter when the mountain views are more clear and more sharp. March to mid-May and from Mid-September to Mid-November is the best time to do Annapurna Base Camp Trek.
What is the difficulty level of Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Annapurna Base Camp Trek is not the strenuous one but a fairly strenuous one. You need to put in good preparation for this trek cause most of the days you climb more than 500 meters and descend to a similar level and climb up again and so on. The days are a bit longer, normally you walk 6-8 hours a day and the trails are mostly ups and downs. Physical fitness and some training before trekking to Annapurna Base Camp are highly recommended.
